Top 7 Worst Passwords of 2014

The previous year was characterized by a staggering number of data breaches, including many high profile ones at Sony Pictures, HBO, Target, Yahoo, etc. While these data breaches are carried out by professional hackers, common people too indulge in “hacking” of their own. Primarily logging into a friend’s email or Facebook account, and subsequently making a mockery of that person online.

Well, readers, the first rule of keeping your account untarnished is to have a password that can withstand such breaches. What you must not do however, is to have passwords like these:

1. “12345678”

So, we know that you remember your first kindergarten lesson. Why you choose to put it up as your password, however, is beyond us.

2. “Password”

You may think it’s pretty smart of you to enter “password” when the computer asks you to enter password, but trust us, it’s not. What it does ensure though, is that you’re easy fodder for most common-man “hackers”.

 3.   “Qwerty”

In 1868, Christopher Sholes, the inventor of the typewriter, placed letters randomly to prevent jamming of the keys, by keeping commonly used phrases apart. In 2014, however, Christopher Sholes, would laugh at you hysterically if he came to know that you’re using his “invention” to protect your data.

4. “Dragon”

Yes, Daenerys Targaryen has them, and yet she goes around asking people “where are they?” Ever since Game of Thrones brought these mystical creatures back into prominence, we’ve wanted them to breathe fire on our enemies, too. But that’s no reason to use it as your Email password.

5. Football”

Do most of your Social Media posts and interests revolve around the Beautiful Game? Wonderful.
Do your friends know it? Wonderful conversations.
Is it your password? DATA-BREACH!!

 6. “123123”

As rhythmic as it is easy to crack. If you need rhythm in your passwords, go for a Beatles’ Song lyrics, and not something a 3-year old child says round the clock to annoy you.

7. “Batman”

Oscar-worthy performances by all actors in Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies demand you to be fans of this series. But they also demand you to be intelligent about securing your data. This password is easy for any Joker to be the Bane of your Social Media account.
